01.06.2019 Trip to the Chartreuse mountain range

Last modification: 29 December 2019
This year, our club (Grand Vol) organized a trip in Chartreuse. Our base camp was in Saint-Bueil in the West of the moutain range.

The first day, we went north of the Vercors, to Montaud.
It is a rather unusual site, a small hill in front of high cliffs, all facing North.

The flight ended in the Chartreuse moutains, at the foot of the Grand Ratz:

As usual during the trips of the Grand Vol club, the evening was long and with a lot of drinks! This is why the next day we only arrive at the beginning of the afternoon at the Aiguebelette takeoff. The takeoff was planned at 2:30 p.m.
With my friends Thomas and Vincent, we would like to go cross country.
Benoit, the instructor from our club who lives in the area, gives us a great overview of the classic route:
First, we can fly north towards the Dent du Chat. Then, the goal is to fly down the entire crest of Aiguebelette. Arrived at the southernmost point of the ridge, you must then transit towards the Chartreuse moutain range and find lift there, which will be the difficult point of this flight.
Then, all you have to do is follow the West faces towards the South or even enter the moutain range if the cloud base allows it, until the Grande Sure in the South of the Chartreuse.

The flight is going exactly as planned, with a quit original end. Here is the video story::

And the gps track on the french XContest (CFD).

As for my two friends, they made the whole flight with me to the south of Aiguebelette ridge, but stayed on the ridge to return to the cars more easily.
Thomas was attacked on this ridge by a bird (buzzard?) which made holes in his glider!
